Installing Coir Matting Into A Well or Recess

Coir mats are one of our best-sellers. Constructed from highly absorbent coconut fibres, they are most effective in entrance areas, doorways and reception areas. This is due to their coarse texture, and strong scraping capabilities that instantly scrapes mud and moisture off footwear. These naturally powerful mats can lock in large quantities of water and dirt, ensuring that your floors stay clean for a long period of time. To learn more about coir, feel free to read our Where and Why to Use Coir Matting blog or watch the video below to see how to install coir. Below the video will also include a step by step guide.

Instructions on how to install Coir into a well/recess

Equipment

Before you get started, it’s important to have the right equipment. You will need:

  • A tape measure
  • Steel rule/ straight cutting edge
  • Sharp knife
  • Marker pen
  • Note pad or anything to jot your measurements down

Step 1) Take your old coir mat out of well or recess.

Step 2) Use your tape measure to measure the length, width and depth of well. Make sure to measure all sides of the well/recess since not all are a perfect shape. Don’t forget to note down your measurements.

You may need to use marine plywood if the well/recess is too deep for your new coir mat. This is used to raise the height.

Step 3) Get your new piece of coir, and make sure the back of the mat is facing upwards. This makes it easier to cut.

Step 4) Use a tape measure to mark your measurements on your new coir mat using a marker pen.

Step 5) Use your steel rule/ straight cutting edge to carefully cut coir according to your measurements. A sharp knife is ideal for this process.

So, there you have it. These simple steps can reduce accidents and help sustain the cleanliness of your environment. In addition, you can see a huge difference between the new and old coir mat. So long, old coir!
