Perfection – 4 out of 4 wins for Paul Westerdale at Donington

Mats4U sponsored Paul Westerdale recently completed his most successful weekend of the Thundersport Pre-National Sport 600 Championship winning all four of his races. Coming in the final meeting of the season, this means that Paul ends the year on a real high and can now look forward to a well deserved break.

The venue was Donington Park in the East Midlands and I had the pleasure of meeting up with Paul in the paddock during the second day of the meeting. I’d like to think that my (not so) expert advice had some sort of influence on his success over the weekend, but then I’d be blatantly lying. Instead I simply had a photo of me on his bike, pretending that I was doing over 100mph through the Foggarty Esses, one handed.

In fact it was great to hear from Paul in person about some of his experiences of racing in the Championship and also to witness first hand the amount of work and dedication that is required to just get the bike to the meeting and the fine tuning of set up in order to get it ready to compete on the race track. With the pitfalls and risks that naturally surround such a sport, you clearly need to have a lot of passion and enthusiasm in order to compete and this was shown in abundance from not only Paul, but also his father who works tirelessly to support him every step of the way.

Of course I was also drawn in by the paddock logo mat bearing the Paul Westerdale racing logo on which his bike was proudly parked! It certainly gave the team an identity in the busy paddock area and also ensured they had their space marked out which no one else could then encroach on!

It was an extremely windy day and rain continually threatened, so if the conditions were difficult for spectating, God only knows how they were for racing. It certainly gave us great joy watching from the stands to see ‘our man’ winning both of the races we watched.

You can read the excellent race report on the Paul Westerdale website which gives you a great insight into what it takes to participate and ultimately win over a racing weekend.

On a final note, I would like to thank Paul for his hospitality during the race day and on behalf of everyone at Mats4U congratulate him on a successful season in which he comfortably placed third in the Championship. We know that Paul is aspiring to reach even greater heights next year and with his attitude we’re confident he’ll achieve his goals in the near future.
