Playground Safety Matting

As the summer months approach, playgrounds and parks will soon be flooded with excitable children who cant wait to get on the swings, slides and climbing frames. Playground safety matting is a great and easy way to keep children protected from falls in playgrounds, and offers peace of mind to parents.

Without using playground safety matting, the ground beneath play equipment can get very muddy and slippery, and become very hard and compacted, both of which can be dangerous for children playing at height and moving from one piece of equipment to another.

Playground safety mats are modular mats that can be pieced together and cut around any play equipment to make any shape and size. The tiles are flexible so they also contour to the ground beneath.

Critical Fall Height

To ensure that mats are safe to be used in play areas, and protect children from falls, they should have been fully tested for the BS outdoor play standards (BS EN1177 Critical Fall Height). Our Outdoor Activity Mat Tiles on Mats4U have been tested to this standard, and have a critical fall height of 3m (dependent on things such as soil type, moisture levels and grass growth). The mat tiles also have a non slip surface, to prevent children from slipping, especially if it has been raining or their is dew present.

Ground Protection

Not only do playground safety mats protect people, particularly children, they also protect the grass and the ground beneath. The mat tiles have holes which allows the mat to grow through, and they can even be mowed once the grass is long enough.
