This month Mats4U has embarked on an exciting partnership with Paul Westerdale Racing. Currently racing in the Thundersport GB Motodex Pre National Sport 600 class, where at the time of writing he lies 3rd out of 41 riders, Paul is one of the country’s up and coming talents and Mats4U are proud to have the opportunity to become a part of his development.
The ThundersportGB can be seen on MotorsTV, but if you don’t keep up to date watching it, we plan to follow Paul’s progress and report back here throughout the season.
A Highly Encouraging Start: Cadwell Park 26th & 27th May
Race 4 out of 9 in the season, the first race with Mats4U sponsorship, saw Paul travel to Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire, to race at what has been dubbed the UK’s own Nurburgring, due to it’s mix of challenging corners.
Paul described the action on a fantastic first day:
“We had a pretty fraught test day trying to get the bike handling well. On race day (Sunday) I led the majority of race one but had to yield to the championship leader when I started to get arm pump so took a good second place. In the second race I managed to get a third and finish off my best day with Thundersport to date.”
After such a good performance on day 1, Paul and his entourage’s hopes were naturally high for the second day of racing:
“Unfortunately when going out in practice on Monday morning I tucked the front end exiting Charlies 2, a fourth gear flat out right hander, causing pretty extensive damage to the bike.
We tried to get her cobbled back together for the first televised race but had to pull off when moving to the grid when I realised there was a big problem with the front end of the bike.
Once I got back to the paddock we found that I had buckled my front wheel in the mornings crash so after changing the dry tyre onto my wet front wheel we were ready for Race 2.
I started from 5th on the grid and managed to hold off constant challenges to keep 4th place, with my bruising coming out from the earlier crash and arm pump rearing its head again It was probably the most physical race of my life.”
So the perils of racing struck, but this is what makes it such an exciting sport to follow. Despite the set back of the second day, overall the weekend gave a very encouraging set of results and Paul remains seated comfortably in 3rd place in the championship. He remained upbeat and (thankfully for us!) mindful of his new sponsorship:
“Luckily my helmet didn’t get damaged in the crash so the Mats4U logo’s were still very much on display!”
Next up is Oulton Park on the 20th June. Expect more news and photos to come as we follow Paul’s progress. The Mats4U team would like to wish Paul and his crew the very best of luck for the season ahead.

Paul approached Mats4U looking for a paddock logo mat on which to display his bike before races and in the paddock. An HD logo mat was chosen as most suitable for his requirements as the logo had fine detail which required a higher resolution print. HD (High Definition) logo mats allow printing at 10 times the resolution of standard logo mats and are exclusive to Mats4U in the UK.
