Coir matting has been a go-to favourite for entrance matting for many years. Coir is not necessarily ideal in all situations though, so here we give you the low down on our opinion of where, when and why you should use coir matting as your choice of entrance matting.

Mat Wells

Coir matting is ideal for mat wells or recesses, because it is available to purchase in a variety of different depths, to fit the depth of your well or recess. Coir mats can also be easily cut to size with a sharp Stanley knife, making them great for unusual sizes.

Scraping

The texture of coir matting means that it has good scraping and wiping properties, particularly at the start of the mats life. The fibres will scrape and wipe dirt and water from the footwear, to stop the dirt from entering your building.

Low Foot Traffic

Supercoir MattingIf your premises only have a small number of people coming in and out, so a low level of foot traffic, then coir matting may be ideal for you. In high foot traffic areas coir will wear much quickly and a worn path may begin to appear on the matting.

You also need to be aware that if you have wheeled traffic coming in and out of your building, such as wheelchairs and trollies, then coir matting will not be suitable as it falls foul of the Disability Discrimination Act.

Budget

If you are looking for matting on a budget, coir matting can be a good choice. Coir has a very low price point and you can probably even pick up a coir door mat from your local supermarket or hardware store for a couple of quid. Cheap doesn’t always mean good quality however and coir mats vary consdierably in this regard. Be sure to check the quality of the mat yourself before buying or seek assurances, in the form of a guarantee for example, so that you are not quickly disappointed.

We hope that this gives you a better idea as to whether coir matting is a suitable choice for your entrance matting.
